The hills of Drimoleague were alive with the sound of music on Thursday 11th May with the voices of close to 300 pupils from primary schools in West Cork performing as part of the

National Children’s Choir, West Cork, here in Drimoleague.  This is the fourth time that the Drimoleague community hosted this celebration of song in the local church, the last time being in 2019.

The children were accompanied by a twenty-four piece orchestra, led and organised by Carol Daly, principal of the Cork School of Music and were conducted by Anne Crowley, teacher at St. Patrick’s N.S. in Skibbereen.

Drimoleague N.S were accompanied by Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Castletownbere, Lisheen N.S., Goleen, N.S, St. Patrick’s Boys’ N.S Skibbereen, St. Joseph’s Girls’ N.S. Christmas Shoebox Appeal

We are running the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal once again this year. You can participate in two ways: Creating a box online with a donation of €20 euro, or create a real one by wrapping a shoebox and including simple items (new or second hand). A leaflet with labels and ideas for gifts was sent home. An online donation of €4 must be made to cover the cost of delivery.

This is a great way of giving to those less well off than us and we encourage you to get involved. See here for more info.

Shoeboxes must be brought into school by Friday November 5th.

Reopening of School

The re-opening of schools following the closure in March presents us all with a challenge in what is likely to be a new reality that will continue for some time yet. We are fully committed to ensuring that all children in our care are supported on their return, both from an academic and well-being perspective.

The school has adopted the Department of Education Response Plan which you will find in the tab above. This specifies the measures that each school will take in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the school community. As well as this, we have developed a Logistics Plan which detail the measures that we as as school are taking to ensure the safety of everyone. Parents have been provided with a synopsis of our logistics plan and an idea of what the school day will look like on returning.

It must be remembered that our first and foremost priority is the education of the children in our care. While every possible measure will be taken to ensure the health and safety of pupils, their families, the staff and wider school community, we will endeavor to restore a sense of normality in our school day and to maintain a high standard of teaching and learning that will prepare our pupils for the challenges of the future.

Le meas,

Mr. Collins and Staff
