St. Brigid’s Day

To celebrate St. Brigid’s Day our pupils learned about the life and legacy of St. Brigid. The children enjoyed learning how to make St. Brigid crosses. Pictured below are some of the crosses made by our 4th and 5th class pupils. Well done to everyone.

Teacher, Artist, Partnership Project

Our 6th class pupils took part in a teacher, artist partnership project with artist Chrissie Dervin. The title of the project was ‘A Group Project to Promote Positive Communication’. The children really enjoyed participating in the project and would like to say a big thank you to Chrissie for her work on the project.

Michael Smith Zoom

On Tuesday January 14th our 5th and 6th pupils enjoyed a zoom call with Michael Smith author of ‘Tom Crean Ice Man’. The children had really enjoyed reading the novel so they were very grateful to get the opportunity to hear from the author and ask questions. A big thank you to Mr. Smith for his time and to Ms. O’ Mahony and Mr. Jennings for organising the zoom call.

Christmas Hyacinths

The children again this year got an opportunity to plant hyacinth bulbs to take home as Christmas presents. A big thank you to our SNA Noreen for organising this for the children, months of preparation have gone into ensuring all the children have a plant for Christmas.

Nursing Home Visit

We were delighted to be invited to Fairfield Nursing home to sing Christmas Carols for the residents. Our 3rd and 4th class children had a great time and a big thank you to all the staff and residents for making us feel so welcome and for all the goodies. A big thank you to Mr Collins for preparing the children and accompanying them on guitar.

Feed West Cork Collection

On the final week of the term our Students Council helped coordinate a food collection for our local ‘Feed West Cork’ food bank. Children were invited to donate non perishable items to the food bank. The food bank is an invaluable resource for the community and surrounding areas and it is great to see it so well supported by the children and families of Drimoleague N.S. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated this year.

Christmas Preparations

We are extremely busy in Drimoleague N.S getting ready for Christmas. A special to our SNA’s for decorating the school for Christmas and to Noreen for making a large wreath for outside the school. Noreen was helped to put up the wreath by two of our pupils.

Rapid Response Jeep Visit

We would like to express our gratitude to local West Cork Rapid Response volunteers who recently visited the school. During their visit the children learned about the vital work done by West Cork Rapid Response Volunteers and role of the Jeeps in provided emergency care to people in West Cork. The children were given the opportunity to look around the jeep and see some of the equipment.

6th Class Trip

Our 6th class pupils recently enjoyed a trip to Skibbereen to see the Bible exhibition in the West Cork Hotel. They also visited the Skibbereen Heritage Centre where they met Terry Kearney who spoke to them about the Great Irish Famine and they watched a video presentation about Lough Hyne. They finished off the day with a trip to the recently opened Windmill Rock. A big thank you to Ms. Casey and SNA Lyn who accompanied the children on the day.
