We were delighted to welcome MEP Billy Kelleher to Drimoleague N.S as part of the Blue Star initiative. Representatives from each class told Mr Kelleher about the countries they have studied as part of the Blue Star. The children were given the opportunity to ask Mr Kelleher questions about how the European Parliament works and how he became an MEP.
Finally the children performed one of the songs they have been learning as part of their National Children’s Choir repertoire.
We would like to extend a big thank to Billy Kelleher for taking time to visit our school and to Ms. Tanner for organising the visit.

To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge we held a Céilí Mór on Thursday afternoon. Over the past two weeks the children have been learning the Droeilín, the Walls of Limerick and Shoe the Donkey.
The pupils also enjoyed watching some of our pupils who have been competing in Scór na Páisití. The girls danced the Fairy and the Dunmanway Set and were accompanied by Mr. Collins on the accordion. We wish our pupils competing in the Scór na Páistí Carbery semi final with the Dunmanway Set the very best of luck.
To celebrate ‘World Book Day’ we have been lucky to have Scholastic Book Fair in school all week. The pop up book shop gives children a chance to browse a wide variety of books. This year in Drimoleague NS, we have continued learning about chess and all the positive aspects of the game. The children enjoyed the social, emotional and cognitive benefits of the game while learning all the pieces, special opening moves, check-mates and so on.
From there, a number of pupils represented the school in this year’s Féile Fichille chess tournament with pupils from other schools in West Cork. The tournament was recently held in BEDA Hall Ballineen. Pupils represented the school in both the Masters’ section (5th and 6th class) and the ‘buds’ (3rd and 4th class). A great day was had and we hope to continue promoting this great interest amongst our pupils. A special word of thanks to Mr Jennings who has been teaching the children chess and prepared them for the tournament.
Rang a 3 and 4 topped off our Wellbeing Week by making these lovely Valentine’s Day cards for that special someone in their lives.
As part of our Wellbeing week activities and to mark Valentines Day the children got a chance to make fresh fruit skewers. We learned that healthy eating is really important for our overall wellbeing. All pupils enjoyed a choice of different fruits including melon, apple, grapes blueberries and more.
