A hub of learning in the heart of West Cork

Congratulations to our pupils who were part of the group that represented West Cork in the National Children’s Choir national concert in the National Concert Hall in Dublin recently. Maith sibh!
During term 2 we took part in the Blue Start project. This culminated on May 9th when we celebrated Europe Day. We took part unite for Europe Day where all the children created a circle by interlinking hands. We also took part in kahoot quizzes based on what we learned while taking part in Blue Star. A big thank you to Ms. Tanner for organising.
Our school community was delighted to host the 5th regional concert of the National Children’s Choir in our local church on April 10th.
Our pupils put on a spectacular performance, wowing the audience with songs covering a range of styles, tempos and genres, some in three part harmonies. Included in our repertoire this year were classics such as Cantate Domino Alleluia, Ave Maria, Speed Your Journey, Irish favourites such as Mo Ghile Mear and Casadh an tSugain, songs from different languages and cultures like Cantamos and Kusimama, and popular favourites such as Viva la Vida.
The children were accompanied by a 24 piece orchestra organised by and led by Carol Daly of the Cork School of Music which greatly enhanced our performance. We were humbled by the good will and volunteerism of the local Drimoleague community who assisted in every way possible in the organisation to make this event such a memorable success.
The school affiliated to this initiative in September and spent many hours in the classroom learning, mastering and perfecting the songs that formed the repertoire. At three different occasions, we organised local cluster rehearsals with the other participating schools where much work was done in combining harmonies and ensuring that the pupils were confident in their performance.
Our girls and boys surpassed all our expectations and it was truly a magical evening of entertainment and song. A huge comhghairdeas to all our performers and mile buiochas on behalf of the school to all those who aided in the organisation of this fantastic event.
Some pictures of volunteers and concert goers who helped make our National Children’s Choir Concert West Cork 2025 a huge success. 🎶

Excitement is building and preparations are well under way for the sold out West Cork National Children’s Choir Concert taking place this Thursday April 10th. A big thank you our SNAs who made these fantastic picture frames for the night.
We were delighted to have 14 new solar panels installed in our school and thankfully there has been loads of lovely Spring sunshine to keep them on the go! It’s a very positive move in making our school green and clean. A huge thank you to Clean Energy Solar for the installation.

Today we welcomed Catherine from Green Schools who did a scooting workshop with our 3rd and 4th class pupils. The workshop looked at how to scoot safely and the importance of wearing a helmet when using a scooter. The workshop was a part of the Green Schools Transport Flag. Thanks to Catherine for giving a great workshop and to our Green Schools Committee for organising.

During ‘Wellbeing Week’ the children planted sweet pea seeds and got to take them home as gifts for their moms on ‘Mothers Day. A special thanks to our SNA Noreen for helping the children plant their seeds.
We were delighted to welcome MEP Billy Kelleher to Drimoleague N.S as part of the Blue Star initiative. Representatives from each class told Mr Kelleher about the countries they have studied as part of the Blue Star. The children were given the opportunity to ask Mr Kelleher questions about how the European Parliament works and how he became an MEP.
Finally the children performed one of the songs they have been learning as part of their National Children’s Choir repertoire.
We would like to extend a big thank to Billy Kelleher for taking time to visit our school and to Ms. Tanner for organising the visit.
