To celebrate ‘World Book Day’ we have been lucky to have Scholastic Book Fair in school all week. The pop up book shop gives children a chance to browse a wide variety of books. On the Thursday to celebrate ‘World Book Day’ the children got the opportunity to purchase any books they liked. The book Fair was enjoyed by all the pupils.

RSA Visit
Today we had a visit from TJ from the RSA. TJ spoke to the children about how to keep save on our roads with a focus on walking a cycling. The visit was organised by our Green Schools Committee as part of the Transport Flag. Thank you to TJ for a very informative talk which was enjoyed by all pupils.



Chess
This year in Drimoleague NS, we have continued learning about chess and all the positive aspects of the game. The children enjoyed the social, emotional and cognitive benefits of the game while learning all the pieces, special opening moves, check-mates and so on.
From there, a number of pupils represented the school in this year’s Féile Fichille chess tournament with pupils from other schools in West Cork. The tournament was recently held in BEDA Hall Ballineen. Pupils represented the school in both the Masters’ section (5th and 6th class) and the ‘buds’ (3rd and 4th class). A great day was had and we hope to continue promoting this great interest amongst our pupils. A special word of thanks to Mr Jennings who has been teaching the children chess and prepared them for the tournament.
Wellbeing Week – Valentines Day
As part of our Wellbeing week activities and to mark Valentines Day the children got a chance to make fresh fruit skewers. We learned that healthy eating is really important for our overall wellbeing. All pupils enjoyed a choice of different fruits including melon, apple, grapes blueberries and more.
Yoga with Linda
As part of our Wellbeing Week 2025 we were delighted to have yoga instructor Linda visit our school. All children got take part in a in a yoga session and enjoyed yoga poses and breath work. A big thank you to Linda for paying us a visit, everyone really enjoyed the sessions.






Glenilen Yogurt






We were lucky enough this week to get the opportunity to taste a new flavour of yogurt from Glenilen Farm. The new blueberry flavour was a big hit with all pupils. This week we are also celebrating Wellbeing Week and this healthy snack was a reminder of the role healthy eating plays in our overall wellbeing. A big thank you to all in Glenilen for delivering such a taste treat. We wish Glenilen all the best with their new flavour.
West Cork Rapid Response Fundraiser

Our student Council recently presented a cheque to volunteers from West Cork Rapid Response for €415. In December our student council organised a Christmas jumper fundraiser with all funds going to West Cork Rapid Response. A big thank you to everyone who supported such a worthy cause.
St. Brigid’s Day
To celebrate St. Brigid’s Day our pupils learned about the life and legacy of St. Brigid. The children enjoyed learning how to make St. Brigid crosses. Pictured below are some of the crosses made by our 4th and 5th class pupils. Well done to everyone.






Teacher, Artist, Partnership Project
Our 6th class pupils took part in a teacher, artist partnership project with artist Chrissie Dervin. The title of the project was ‘A Group Project to Promote Positive Communication’. The children really enjoyed participating in the project and would like to say a big thank you to Chrissie for her work on the project.
Michael Smith Zoom
On Tuesday January 14th our 5th and 6th pupils enjoyed a zoom call with Michael Smith author of ‘Tom Crean Ice Man’. The children had really enjoyed reading the novel so they were very grateful to get the opportunity to hear from the author and ask questions. A big thank you to Mr. Smith for his time and to Ms. O’ Mahony and Mr. Jennings for organising the zoom call.
