National Children’s Choir West Cork Concert

Our school community was delighted to host the 5th regional concert of the National Children’s Choir in our local church on April 10th.

Our pupils put on a spectacular performance, wowing the audience with songs covering a range of styles, tempos and genres, some in three part harmonies. Included in our repertoire this year were classics such as Cantate Domino Alleluia, Ave Maria, Speed Your Journey, Irish favourites such as Mo Ghile Mear and Casadh an tSugain, songs from different languages and cultures like Cantamos and Kusimama, and popular favourites such as Viva la Vida.

The children were accompanied by a 24 piece orchestra organised by and led by Carol Daly of the Cork School of Music which greatly enhanced our performance. We were humbled by the good will and volunteerism of the local Drimoleague community who assisted in every way possible in the organisation to make this event such a memorable success.

The school affiliated to this initiative in September and spent many hours in the classroom learning, mastering and perfecting the songs that formed the repertoire. At three different occasions, we organised local cluster rehearsals with the other participating schools where much work was done in combining harmonies and ensuring that the pupils were confident in their performance.

Our girls and boys surpassed all our expectations and it was truly a magical evening of entertainment and song. A huge comhghairdeas to all our performers and mile buiochas on behalf of the school to all those who aided in the organisation of this fantastic event.
